Louisiana v Phillip Callais: Jim Crow Strikes Back

Ever since Trump won some white supremacists folks have felt that this is a call to MARA (Make America Racist Again). Actually to some MAGA = MARA and their President is making it obvious by going after minorities in ICE raids. But ICE raids only go after Hispanics. Some white folks in Louisiana want to go against blacks. They miss the good'ol Jim Crow days.

The Voting Right Act leveled the political playing field by giving equal access to political candidates from minorities. In Louisiana the district maps were redrawn to give a fair chance to black candidates according to the state's demographics. Louisiana is 1/3 black but only had One black representative. The new Congressional map allowed for two black candidates to aspire for a political position in Congress.

White MAGAts didn't like this so they went to court. They argue that by providing proportional access to black candidates the law is discriminating against whites. Remember, this law was precisely made to end the disenfranchisement of black people in politics. These white folks want to turn the clock back to the times when black people were not allowed to vote or have representation.

I read the case. I listened to the arguments. With a Supreme Court that is willing to turn precedents this case can be a bellwether for what's to come for racial minorities under Trump. They already approved the racial profiling of Hispanics, they ended the racial quota system that allowed minorites access to the Ivy League, they where even consulted on whether to nullify Obergefell, and they abolished the Chevron Doctrine. Who knows what will happen with this case.

If the racist MAGA republicans get their way black people and other minorities will be stripped of their right to fair representation on the political ballot. Political maps can be redrawn to only allow white Republicans to run for office. This is what Trump and his racists army led by Nick Fuentes want. Martin Luther King Jr must be turning in his grave seeing this.
